Below are some of the Adult Skater profiles that have been featured on our website.

|
Skated Since: 1998
Competition Level: Ryan hasn’t persuaded me to compete beyond “skate with your coach”!
I competed back in England, and the only trophy I would qualify for is the “shaking with nerves” trophy.
Highest Tests Passed: Silver dance
Coach: Ryan O'Meara
Major Accomplishments:Taking all my dance tests up to silver in 12 months
Family: Husband, Mark, and two teenage children, Kate & Iain. I only started skating
when I was bored watching my daughter skate. I got on the ice with my 5 year old son (at the time),
and discovered I could skate. My son quit skating before he was 7 and my daughter quit skating in
2005, to take up golf.
Occupation: IT Coordinator at a K-8 school
Quote: “My husband does not understand when I come back from skating and complain
that the ice was hard today. To him, all ice is hard (and cold). Skating is very addictive, and my
husband is very supportive. He does not even complain when the alarm clock goes off at 3.45 am, so
I can be at the rink for 5am.”

at Adult Nationals in 2008, and passing the Intermediate MIF test.
Family: My mom, brother and nephew live in Seattle.
Occupation: Software Engineer
Quote: “Taking up skating as an adult is certainly the silliest
thing I've ever done, but that's OK - that's what keeps me from getting old.”

Skated Since: 5-6 years ago.
Coach: Terry Moellenberg
Major Accomplishments:
I think it is a major accomplishment for anyone to try something new as an adult and
stick with it (especially when it involves some pretty hard falls to the ice).
I have come a lot further than I thought I would in the beginning. For the first
year that I skated, I firmly contended that if both my feet left the ice, it meant
my bottom was about to hit it. For as long as I struggled with spinning, I would
have to say finally to actually do a scratch spin was a major accomplishment.
Family: My mom is in Tucson, my sister is in New River, and my brother and dad are in Florida.
Occupation: I’m a veterinarian by training, but I had a 4 year stretch
of chemotherapy, bone marrow transplants and radiation to my head, so that all
left me with some short term memory and neurologic issues, so I’m on medical disability.
Quote: “No one gets out of the game of live alive, you either die in bleachers or on the
field, so you may as well come out on the field and play.” –Les Brown. As far as figure
skating is concerned, it is just an activity that I love, that I get to share with people that I love.

Skated Since: In NY – Age 8–15 At the neighborhood pond (after clearing the ice)
In AZ - Age 29+ at the Alltel Ice Den
Coaches: Ice Café Coaches
Major Accomplishments:
Having fun while continuing to improve my skating skills.
Being a member of the Iced Lattes Adult Synchro Team.
Participating in the Ice Den Ice Shows.
Feeling graceful and powerful, sometimes both at the same time.
Family: Single, with a big extended family back in Upstate New York.
Occupation: Accounting Manager for four companies:
a music festival company in OK,
a drywall materials distributor in Glendale,
& two construction related companies in Scottsdale.
Quote: “Skating is a very important part of my life,
it lets me forget the other things that may be going on, at least for awhile.
I’ve always been involved in team sports so the individuality of skating
is different for me, and the support of the other adult skaters and the coaches is great.
I feel lucky to have such a diverse, genuinely caring group of people in my life.”
