History
The Coyotes Skating Club of Arizona
was founded in 1975 as the Arizona Figure Skating
Club. The name was changed in
1998 when the Ice Den, original home of the
Phoenix Coyotes, became the club's home
rink. Our membership
exceeds 250 individuals, putting us among the top 10 clubs in the Pacific
Coast section. We encourage the instruction, practice, and advancement of our skating members in all
disciplines, including
Synchronized Skating and
Theatre on Ice, while cultivating a spirit of camaraderie. For our non-skating
members, such as parents,
we provide education and guidance of the sport.
Competitions
Annually, in July, we host Cactus Classic, a
US Figure Skating sanctioned event open to skaters of all levels. Hundreds of
skaters, from across the country, choose to visit the great state of Arizona and
participate in this exciting competition.
The club has also been proud to
host a variety of US Figure Skating and
International Skating Union sanctioned events
for Regional, Sectional, National,
and International
competitors.
Events have included:
-
2010 Southwest Pacific Regional Figure Skating Championships
- 2009 Pacific Coast Sectional
Championships

Skating Championships

Competitors
We take great pride in our competitive
individual and team skaters, who have ranged from the youngest of non-qualifying
competitors at the Basic Skills
Snowplow
Sam level to the elite qualifying competitors at the Gold/Senior level. Many of our
skaters have received
special awards at a variety of non-qualifying
competitions.

Olympic
Pride
Our club's most
accomplished competitor to date is Ryan O'Meara. Ryan, along with Jamie Silverstein,
represented the United States in Dance at the
2006 Winter Olympic Games.
Several of our skaters have been honored with an appointment to
Team USA.

Testing:
US Figure Skating tests are administered to competitive skaters that desire to enter
qualifying competitions. Recreational skaters can also opt to take tests in
order to challenge themselves and their abilities. Test sessions are offered on a regular basis. Official
US Figure Skating patches are awarded for tests passed. Skaters who have
successfully completed their Gold/Senior tests are eligible for medals.
Congratulations to club members who have passed their
Gold/Senior tests!
Activities:
Club activities
include periodic on-ice sessions and off-ice get togethers for club members to become
more acquainted in a recreational or celebratory atmosphere. At selected times activities
also include community service projects. Junior Board members plan and host
club sessions with the Board of Directors, hosting send-off receptions and
the annual club banquet. The banquet
is held each spring to elect board members,
celebrate the
end of the season, and give recognition to skaters' accomplishments.
Board of Directors:
The Coyotes Skating Club of Arizona is a 501(c)(3)
non-profit organization staffed entirely by volunteers. Its primary source of funding
is from membership fees, competitions, and contributions. Directors serve three-year
terms and are elected annually by club members. Board meetings are held monthly
at the Ice Den. All members are welcome
and invited to attend.
